I just had the same exact issue on the same exact phone. after doing some digging it seems like this happens when android has a problem optimizing one or more apps, so it stubbornly retries all of them. so i uninstalled apps one-by-one and rebooted, and the problem went away after uninstalling supersu.. "android is upgrading, and afterwards it came optimizing application 1 of 158", later came as starting apps then tecno will come and the upgrading starts again for more than 24 hours. i need a solution to stop it and have access to the phone. i cant do anything with the phone so please give me the right solution. Earlier android os used to run on dalvik runtime which means apps used to compile at the time of execution. but now, android has switched to art with lollipop version. it means all the apps will be compiled beforehand making them launch faster. so "optimizing the apps" basically means android is compiling all the apps.. Initially, android users did not have this problem, but once version 5.0 lollipop started rolling out, a lot of them started seeing the android optimizing apps message after a reboot. specifically, what they got was “ android is starting. optimizing app 1 of x,” with x being the total number of apps they had.. 24 weather apps (one to show weather for each hour in a day), 365 calendar apps (one for each day of the year), 47 email apps, 29 sms apps, 9 web browsers, 3 facebook apps, 6 camera apps, 24 news apps (one for each hour), 40 bejeweled clones = 547.
